No it did not. After upgrade to SP1 on clean install of Vista the installation on Microsoft Office 2007 broke it. Now I get Blue Screen Of Death on every boot. Reformatted and returned to XP. Microsoft is now breaking their own software.

I installed SP1 wihtout any trouble. Also Office 2007 and Visual Studio 2005. No problems. I noticed improved performance when rendering thumbnails and opening large images. Ghostza, admit it. You broke it
If Office 2007 could not be installed on Vista w/SP1 then that would apply to everyone.

Only customers who have a Software Assurance Agreement, Professional Contract, TechNet subscription, MSDN Subscription or belong to the Microsoft Partner Program qualify for free telephone support. Rest will be offered email support via the Microsoft Support site, within next working day after the support request.
The service pack will not install on computers that use device and system drivers that Microsoft has deemed incompatible. The list includes audio and display drivers from several manufacturers. Microsoft already issued press release that they are working on, to resolve the issue ASAP. Well this isn’t new; I remember when Windows XP Service Pack 1 was made available in 2002 that wreaked havoc with thousands of host computers and Microsoft fixed many of the problems with subsequent patches.
This free support for Vista SP1 is just more than essential for Microsoft, especially since the company preparing to remove Windows XP from sale this June. The last thing Microsoft want is to alienate any potential Vista switchers by raising further doubts over the reliability of the Vista’s new patch.

Most of the drivers actually work, one just has to uninstall them then reinstall. the best and easiest way to install SP1 on problem computers is to remove most drivers and ram if you have more than 2gb, remove the Video Card all USB devices FireWire Card etc. I even found that some CD/DVD Burners had to be removed I never had a problem to install SP1 on any PC doing the above, now laptops that’s a differend story.

My install went ok until the last stage - it rebooted several times at the last stage but I had to go out! When I returned home it had installed but would not let me logon untill I activated it. Why do you have to activate it straight away? What happened to the 30 days grace anyone??,,,

Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) said Tuesday (8.4.08) that it’s resumed distribution of a prerequisite file for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 after fixing a bug that caused some users’ computers to enter a cycle of reboots during installation of the file.
The fix applies to Microsoft’s Servicing Stack Update for Vista SP1. Users need to install the update before downloading SP1.
“This fixes an issue that a small number of customers experienced when we first issued the SSU in February,” said a Microsoft spokesman.
Microsoft said it plans to start distributing Vista SP1 in five languages, including English, in mid-April through its online Automatic Update system. Full Details

I tried without success to install Vista service pack 1 so I reverted back to a restore disk. One thing I have noticed (the same as jojo above) is that Vista SP1 is not shown to me anymore in the updates page - I wonder why?
It seems all #*$!ed up!!

Windows Vista Service Pack 1. In addition to previously released updates, SP1 contains changes focused on addressing specific reliability and performance issues, supporting new types of hardware, and adding support for several emerging standards. Windows Vista SP1 also addresses some management, deployment, and support challenges.

I have not noticed any difference, maybe its a bit slower than before even after tweaking the startup. Most people are planning to buy windows 7, instead of vista, why waste cash when windows is coming out with a new O/S.

I tried many times to install the Vista service pack 1. I’ve tried the full pack, safe mode, Ive checked files, defraged you name it. It gets right to the end of the instalation ie. 3 of 3 100% then says ’service pack failed to install reverting changes’. Thats it. Do I have to install this service pack? What a crock.
